Did you tune into the CMA Awards on ABC tonight? It was a phenomenal show, but if you missed it, no need to worry we’ve recapped the top moments of the night below!
Brad and Carrie’s Jokes
We knew these 8 time hosting veterans would have some good jokes, but we expected there to be a lot more of them about all the recent divorces in country music. Instead they took a different approach opening the show with a Star Wars spoof featuring Darius Rucker and Luke Bryan. However, one of the best jokes came when Brad Paisley tried to make the “Naked Host Selfie” happen and stripped down to his boxer shorts proclaiming, “Miley (Cyrus) set the bar. We try to reach the bar”. There was also a bit of riffing on Sam Hunt and his rapping/talking/singing style that ended with Brad Paisley coining the phrase, Sam Hunting….which is now what all the ladies trying to date Sam Hunt will describe their efforts as.
Kacey Musgraves’ Blinged Out Performance
Kacey Musgraves took the stage to perform her song, “Dime Store Cowgirl” covered in gemstones! There were also unicorns involved in the performance.
Sam Hunt Looking Like A Hot Priest
Sam Hunt’s outfit for his performance of “Take Your Time” had the internet all a flutter about it’s resemblance to something a priest would wear.
Eric Church And Hank Williams + Keith Urban And John Mellencamp Opening
The Country Music Association brought out the big guns to open the show! I won’t try to use words to explain how great it was. I’ll just let you check out the video below.
Eric Church Drops A New Album And Performs A Brand New Song
Eric Church sent the music world into a tizzy earlier today when he sent emails to his fan club members with a link to stream his brand new album, Mr. Misunderstood. Then, during the awards show it was announced that the album was now available to everyone on iTunes! As if that wasn’t enough, he then performed the title track, “Mr. Misunderstood,” on the CMA Award stage! The man is a bad ass and the album if you were wondering is amazing!
Brooks & Dunn & Reba
These legends got on stage and made us all miss 90’s country a lot! Especially when they launched into “Play Something Country”.
Miranda Lambert’s Performance Of Bathroom Sink
We always love a performance by Miranda Lambert, but this one was extra special for the simple fact that she performed this song “Bathroom Sink”, which she wrote herself, and that talks about the insecurity we all face sometimes when looking at ourselves and trying to live up to everyone’s expectations. Not only did she give us an incredibly heartfelt performance, but she did it while rocking some amazing pink streaks in her hair! Then later in the night when she won Female Vocalist Of The Year, she accepted her award rocking a Chris Stapleton t-shirt and thanked the New Artist Of The Year Winner for his amazing performance! Miranda Lambert is pure class!
Chris Stapleton Taking Home Three Awards
Chris Stapleton took home, Album Of The Year, New Artist Of The Year, and Male Vocalist Of The Year and the country music community could not have been more excited about it! During his acceptance speech for Male Vocalist Of The Year, the emotion and gratitude was apparent in his voice, and the entire crowd was on their feet with tears in their eyes as well. Chris Stapleton has worked so hard and put out an amazing album, Traveller, earlier this year, so it made our hearts happy to see him win! Much deserved!
Chris Stapleton And Justin Timberlake’s Collaboration
This performance broke the internet! Seriously, it was one of the greatest performances in award show history! See for yourself below. Sunny Sweeney’s tweets basically sum up how we feel about it!
Well, that is our recap of this amazing night! Did we miss any of your favorite moments? Let us know in the comments below!
