The third day of the Great Minnesota Get-Together finds us focusing more on the sounds of the fair than the smells of the fair. For Saturday, Aug. 24, Minnesota-favorite The Daisy Dillman highlights the Heritage Square Stage, and Canadian duo The Stellas featuring Lennon and Maisy heads south for several sets on the Leinie Lodge Bandshell.
The Stellas are a country music duo from Canada and finished in fourth place on the second season of Country Music Television’s “Can You Duet” in 2009. The married couple has been together for 16 years, playing in bands and writing country-pop that highlights their strong lead vocals and complimentary harmonies. Lennon and Maisy are their daughters who have become a YouTube singing sensation and play the daughters (Maddie and Daphne) of Rayna James on the ABC series “Nashville.” The duo will appear Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25 with sets at 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
With its original country-rock blend and sweet harmonies, The Daisy Dillman Band has garnered a loyal national following. The group made the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the 1980s, and in 2006 was voted into the Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame. They will perform Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25 at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.
A favorite for all MinnesotaCountry.com music fans is the annual Minnesota State Fair Fiddle Contest, which will take place in Heritage Square from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25. Saturday afternoon features competition in five divisions: open, junior, young adult, adult and senior. Sunday afternoon includes the championship playoff, trick fiddling, twin fiddling, Fee-Fi-Faux and the gambler’s division.
Greene and Hurst hits this year’s celebration with shows at the Gardens Building on the corner of Dan Patch and Underwood 6-11 p.m. nightly Aug. 22-24 & Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Greene and Hurst is a new kind of country, a fun kind of country. The band mixes in today’s hits, some classics, a few classic rock songs and even originals. Wanting to do nothing but have a good time with the crowd, G&H makes sure to leave everything they have on stage to make sure the fans leave happy and wanting more.
